Cheney "Very Disappointed" By Libby Verdict
A federal jury today convicted I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby of lying about his role in the leak of an undercover CIA officer's identity, finding the vice president's former chief of staff guilty of two counts of perjury, one count of making false statements and one count of obstruction of justice, while acquitting him of a single count of lying to the FBI.
And President Bush is "sad for Libby's family."
'Nuff said.

Cheney's very disappointed and Bush is sad. I'm a happy camper.
I'm confused. What, exactly, could Cheney possibly be disappointed about? His lackey's are willing to go to prison for him... That's not something to sneeze at... Oh wait, the fact that he doesn't have the men and women on the jury in his pocket too... yeah, that must be disappointing...

I'm not terribly upset about the outcome myself.
Dena:
Cheney is mouthing platitudes.
He is now hoping that Libby doesn't cut a deal with the prosecutors to go easy on him when requesting a sentence.
During Watergate and Iran/Contra, formerly close-lipped conspirators turned on their masters at this point in the proceedings.
You are right that the Vice-President has had it pretty good up to this point.
Maybe that will start to change.
Any way you cut it, it's going to reflect badly on Cheney. A fish rots from the head, everyone intuitively knows this. Even every Republican, especially every Republican, knows that Libby is just the fall guy.

Agreed. It is funny seeing some of Cheney's people -- like Mary Matalin -- who know full well that the VP is up to his neck in this matter, insisting that Libby got railroaded.
They are all trying to keep Scooter, the designated fall guy, happy.
A promise of a presidential pardon must have been delivered long ago. There is no other reason a guy like Libby would have taken a bullet for Cheney absent such an assurance.
